Mark your calendars to join in the fun with other folks for the Kaplan Area Chamber of Commerce’s first Boogie on the Boulevard 5K and one mile Fun Run family event.

Even if you don’t participate in the walk, there will be plenty of music, food and fun for the whole family at Turnley Park for the inaugural Boogie On The Boulevard

You choose whether you want to participate in a 1 mile walk/run or a 5K walk/run. (5K is 3.1 miles). Walkers, strollers, wagons, etc. are all welcomed.

The one mile event will begin at 7:30 a.m. sharp. The 5K event will begin at 8 a.m. Both events will begin and end in Turnley Park.

Inaugural participation medals will be awarded to all finishers.

For those interested in the 5K run, a free training is currently being held every Tuesday evening at 7 p.m. at the Kaplan High School track to build up for the 5K event.

A 5K is only 3.1 miles and just about anyone can complete this with just a little training. This will get you ready to compete and finish the 5K run/walk event. This is a perfect training for the beginner.

“For both the mile and 5K,” said Mike Kloesel, coordinator of the walk/run, “we have zig zagged the course through the streets of Kaplan that have a lot of canopy because of the beautiful trees. This makes not only a cooler run, but give us a chance to show off Kaplan to the outsiders who have come to our city.

“We are also asking for support from the citizens to come outside and and cheer on the runners as they pass in front of their homes. This gives the participants encouragement and shows our hospitality to outsiders.”

Two water stations will be set up along the route, along with a tent by Abrom Kaplan Memorial Hospital and Acadian Ambulance should any medical problems arise.

“It is important we all participate and support this annual event,” said Kloesel. “ Our chamber and local businesses have spent a lot of money to make this successful. We have registration coming from as far as Shreveport and Texas. This is an excellent opportunity to show off our city and our culture.”

“William Seaux & Driving Dixie” will open the “fais-do-do” at 11 a.m. with a four hour concert featuring one of the smoothest voices south Louisiana has to offer. You’ll hear all of the top country and Cajun songs during William Seaux and Driving Dixie’s stage performance.

At 4 p.m., “Louisiana FIYA” will be performing, The band is truly a variety band that keeps you guessing as to which song is coming next. FIYA is a mixture of blues, country, rock and roll, funk, dance, zydeco, Cajun and original work.

Three different lead singers enable this band to entertain for hours.
