Proceeds from Fishing for Memories were donated to the Alzheimer’s Association Tuesday evening at the Abbeville Harbor and Terminal Board meeting. The $45,000 big check from the 2013 rodeo takes the five-year total to $170,000.

“We are excited to surpass the 500-angler milestone. This has been a goal for the rodeo for a couple of years,” said Holly Boffy, event co-organizer.

Generosity demonstrated by the volunteer staff that works countless hours and the sponsors that pay for the event makes Fishing for Memories possible. The champion sponsor this year was Community Home Health and Hospice Care and the master sponsor was Upland Services, Inc.

Joining the members of the Abbeville Harbor and Terminal Board for the check presentation were event organizers Carrick, Holly and Pierce Boffy and Dawn Dugas representing Community Home Health and Hospice. Bob Stephens, Executive Officer of the Alzheimer’s Association, accepted the check on behalf of the Alzheimer’s Association.

The fifth annual Fishing for Memories was held over the summer at the Abbeville Harbor and Terminal Public Boat Launch in Intracoastal City. Again this year, the event is the leading private fundraiser for the Alzheimer’s Association in Louisiana. Last year the event raised $40,000.

Fishing for Memories 2014 will be held the weekend after Father’s Day, June 19th to June 22nd at the Abbeville Harbor & Terminal Public Boat Launch. Geno Delafose & French Rockin’ Boogie is scheduled to play Saturday, June 21.

The Alzheimer’s Association is the leading voluntary health organization in Alzheimer’s care, support and research. Their mission is to eliminate Alzheimer’s disease through the advancement of research, to provide and enhance care and support for all affected and to reduce the risk of dementia through the promotion of brain health. Their vision is “a world without Alzheimer’s disease.”
